“The Clothes are Magic.” is a video essay where I travel through the animation history of talking cartoon animals to propose an answer to the question of why Goofy talks and Pluto doesn’t. The answer is that the clothes are magic! This is why Mickey Mouse has a pet dog named Pluto and a best friend named Goofy who is also a dog. Goofy wears clothes and Pluto doesn't. From just a shirt to shoes and even those iconic white gloves. YES, this is totally the answer to why cartoon characters wear gloves. The Gloves are Magic. Cartoon animals wear clothes because it grants them sentience. It gives these furry little cartoon creatures self awareness, a consciousness that lets them walk, talk, and build a furry cartoon society. With the Walt Disney company celebrating their 100 years of wonder and Warner Bros 100th anniversary happening too, I thought it was finally time to talk about this weird Idea that explores over a century of talking cartoon animals. End of an era... The end of Flash player
Seeing the news that Flash Player is going to no longer be supported across the internet after 2020 made me feel... Weird. The internet I came up on, that I created in, that I made new friends all over, was a flash player internet. It made me think about all the comics that I created between 2009 and 2016. It made me think about all of you who showed me and my work so much live and support over the years. I know a large chunk of y'all have grown up since those old days, you have jobs, kids, college, a busy life full of wonderful, weird and new things. It's been a long time since I did one of these videos and I had thoughts rumbling around in my head all night. I realized that I ended the comics Goblyn and Myth of Eustro in very harsh ways and critical story points... I definitely regret it but going cold turkey might have been the best way to pull myself out of depression and my seeking to ignore the problem by making art. So here I am in 2020 grey haired and a bit older, happier and with a finished episode of TRPL 5 under my belt. seriously I have a lot of grey hair in my beard now... I don't know what happened. Adulting is hard. lol
